to: perfect patty

i just read and reread your letters to me, still clustered in a souvenir box with my other childhood treasures
i read them in random order but time does not really matter particularly because the details in each letter gave me clear flashbacks of the different episodes of our friendship. after reading each letter, i was curious to know what i have written to you in return...

i don't know if you still remember this piece of childhood
i'm not going to lie, i didn't until i opened that box once again after 6 years...

our silly nicknames for ourselves and the boys that we were once fond of

expressed in our letters...
your optimistic hope for our friendship
my realization of our final goodbye

forever now seems like a hopeless word
change is something i saw and did not embrace perfectly

as i tucked the neatly folded pieces of our past back into the box, i thought i should write about this happening

goodbye and hello,
the other perfect patty

i saw your blog in my subscriptions.. and after reading the first few lines.. i paused. and wondered for a bit, because the name "perfect patty" felt so closely warm and familiar. but i hesitated, was a bit shocked.. and asked myself "is that to me?".. because i could not be sure. then i read on..

tonight before i went to sleep i took out the shoebox where i keep old letters from high school.. and went through some of your letters.. and i just had to come back on the computer, on xanga, to make my reply before sleeping. it felt like i was digging through a past collection of memories, somewhat distanced, but warm at the same time. me too, i seemed to have put this childhood behind me.. but although i could not recollect the details.. what is still found there is the feelings and emotions of joy, of true friendship, of sillyness even.

the way we talked and wrote on and on.. and told each other practically every single detail.. the colorful notepapers that were different every time (and u'd fold them up in cool ways that i wouldn't know how to fold back now).. there were boys (oh all sorts of.. names).. there was school.. tutor.. even knowing how many cups of water u drank.. haha.. and then there were goodbyes.. meaningful quotes.. and one time when i was on vacation, you even wrote me what you did each day. reading these and walking down memory lane reminds me of such innocent friendship.. something so valuable and so difficult to develop nowadays (in my opinion). and it is also scary to see how different we probably are as individuals now from seeing different places, things, and 'growing up' in somewhat different environments after we 'parted'.

and six years later now, here we are.. still on xanga.. we said we'd use xanga to keep each other updated. 'forever' is such a taken for granted word.. but one thing that stands is that we are 'patties for life' deep inside. i do hope that regardless wherever life takes us.. however busy we are.. we will still have time to take a step back, pause, and remember the other patty somewhere else in the world.

thanks for the blog, my long lost patty
